Oliver George Clarke was born on 1st September 1899 in Culford (school register) (Thingoe Q4-1899 4A:849), son of George and Caroline CLARKE (née DRAKE).

He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds.
Recorded as dying of wounds,without his service records it is not possible to be certain on what day he was wounded or where. No 7 and No 33 Casualty Clearing Stations were stationed at Ligny, so it is very likely he was wounded close to, if not on, the 27th July. The battalion were operating on the northern outskirts of Lens, now covered by the A21 motorway and an industrial estate.
